The Story Behind The Day

One of the highlights of the Lincoln Festival of History was watching skilled stonemasons working outside Lincoln Cathedral using traditional tools and techniques. Throughout the day, visitors were able to see detailed carving work up close while learning more about the craftsmanship involved in maintaining one of Lincoln’s most historic landmarks.

Rather than focusing on the wider festival, this gallery centres on the people behind the craft — capturing moments of concentration, worn tools and the small details involved in shaping stone by hand.
